Located approximately a mile southeast of New Windsor, Illinois, on East 90th Street is a former AT&T Long Lines repeater site. This site had two hops — Joy (west) and Kewanee (east) — along a route spanning from La Porte, Indiana, to Red Oak Junction, Iowa. The route originally handled telephone traffic only, but was later expanded to also handle television traffic.

New Windsor has a 306-foot, self-supported lattice tower with four KS-15676 horn-reflector antennas and two “cornucopia” horn-reflector antennas. The equipment shelter is a fairly common design in north-central Illinois. According to Terry Michaels (of Tower Sites Inc., the owner,) the white block building was the first part of the site when it was still a TD-2 telephone-only route. A two-floor concrete addition was added when the sites were upgraded with TH-1 radios that more than doubled message capacity. During this time, television was also added to the route. The second floor, accessible from a ladder on the outside, contained an air handling unit for the station’s air conditioning system.

The current use of the New Windsor tower is unknown. The site is owned by Tower Sites Inc.

The site is located about a mile southeast of New Windsor on East 90th Street.

Four KS-15676 horn-reflector and two “cornucopia” horn-reflector antennas are still mounted on the New Windsor tower. The antennas facing the camera are aimed west at Joy, while the opposing antennas face east at Kewanee.
The typical equipment shelter design for north-central Illinois can also be found at New Windsor. The block building (right) was the original TD-2 building. When TH-1 radios were installed along the route, a two-level, semi-hardened concrete addition was built. New Windsor is heavily overgrown with vegetation.
